Camp Boggy Creek
Summer camp can be a wonderful opportunity for children to learn and grow. While having epilepsy doesn't prevent a child from going to camp, sometimes it does affect a parent's decision in selecting a summer camp.
Children with epilepsy, ages 7-16, are eligible to attend Camp Boggy Creek, a medical camping center founded by Paul Newman and General Norman Schwarzkopf. The camp is designed and equipped for children who have a chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Camp sessions are one week. Activities include:
- Boating
- Fishing
- Theater
- Swimming
- Archery
- Horseback Riding
- Arts & Crafts
- Developing friendships
Registration for Camp Boggy Creek (ages 7-16) will take place through the end of March, 2010. The camp session for epilepsy will be held July 18-23, 2010.
The Epilepsy Services Foundation provides camp scholarships for up to twenty children with epilepsy. For more information, call the Foundation at 813-870-3414 ext. 5 or e-mail torth@epilepsysf.org
Family Retreat Weekend
Not only do children need time away. So do families. When summer camp is over, the whole family can come to Boggy Creek for a retreat weekend. The retreat allows the child and their family members time together away from the daily responsibilities and stresses of their medical situation. Retreat weekends are designed to gather families who are dealing with similar issues - such as epilepsy- so they can get to know one another and create a circle of supportive friends.
The Epilepsy Services Foundation provides camp scholarships for up to four families. For more information, call the Foundation at 813-870-3414 ext. 5 or e-mail torth@epilepsysf.org. |
